Advanced Printer Troubleshooting Tips
Network Printing Issues
If network printing stops working, start by checking that the printer's IP address has not changed. Many home routers assign dynamic IP addresses that can change after a restart. Consider assigning a static IP to your printer for more reliable operation.
Print Queue Problems
A stuck print queue can prevent all printing. Clear the queue by stopping the print spooler service, deleting any pending jobs, and restarting the spooler. On Windows, use the Services management console to control the spooler.
Driver Conflicts
If your printer behaves erratically after a system update, the printer driver may be incompatible. Completely remove the existing driver and install the latest version from the manufacturer's website.
Colour Calibration
If printed colours do not match what you see on screen, run your printer's colour calibration utility. You may also need to calibrate your monitor for accurate colour matching.
Streaks and Banding
Horizontal or vertical lines in prints usually indicate a dirty or worn printhead, drum, or transfer belt. Run the printer's cleaning cycle first. If the problem persists, the affected component may need replacement.
Firmware Recovery
If a firmware update fails or your printer becomes unresponsive, check the manufacturer's support site for firmware recovery procedures specific to your model.
