Finding the Right Ink or Toner for Your Printer
Identifying Your Cartridge
The easiest way to find the right cartridge is to check the label on your current cartridge or look up your printer model on the manufacturer's website. Each printer model uses specific cartridge numbers that are not interchangeable with other models.
Standard vs. High-Yield
Standard cartridges are less expensive upfront but print fewer pages. High-yield or XL cartridges cost more initially but produce significantly more pages at a lower cost per page. For regular printing, high-yield cartridges are almost always the better value.
Genuine vs. Compatible Cartridges
Genuine manufacturer cartridges are designed specifically for your printer and carry the manufacturer's quality guarantee. Compatible or remanufactured cartridges from third parties may cost less but can vary in quality and may affect your printer's warranty.
Storing Cartridges
Store unused cartridges in their original sealed packaging in a cool, dry location. Ink cartridges have a shelf life and should be used before the expiration date printed on the packaging. Toner cartridges have a longer shelf life but should still be stored properly.
Recycling Used Cartridges
Do not throw used cartridges in regular waste. Many manufacturers offer free recycling programmes. Check the manufacturer's website for cartridge return instructions or drop off used cartridges at participating retail locations.
